Assoluto Racing

John B. Marine | 9:38 PM | |
Assoluto Racing has nothing to do with the Assoluto manufactuer in the Ridge Racer series, but it is a mobile simulation racing game from developer Infinity Victor. Pure performance driving will get you far here. This game has a huge Gran Turismo feel to it. However, you are not doing any racing against a pack of cars. I have played around with Assoluto Racing and am willing to offer a review based on my progress so far.

NOTE: My review is based on my experience with Assoluto Racing on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8-inch tablet.

Assoluto Racing Infinity Vector
^ from: (YouTube) - Can you become a performance driving pro in the realm of Assoluto Racing?

Assoluto Racing was released in 2016 or so for mobile devices. This free game is the successor to "Redline Racing." Assoluto Racing challenges you to drive a number of cars ranging from economy cars to high-end sports cars. A number of tracks await you including a handful of real-world sports cars. While you will be driving these cars to their limits, you will not be doing any pack racing or any head-to-head racing. So forget about any kind of wheel-to-wheel racing. The game was previously for Apple's iOS system, but it was later ported for Android devices.

Powered by Unity3D, this game delivers impressive visuals. You will find yourself trying to accurately drive these cars on your smartphone or tablet. There are a number of elements to customize. You can buy new cars or tune your current one. No matter what the case, you will be taking on some very interesting driving situations across the many tracks in this game.

To play "Assoluto Racing," you must sign up with an account if you don't have one already. This game is completely free, but there are advertisements. Seeing the extra videos earn you extra coins just for watching. Same applies for connecting via Facebook. Now is a look at the different nuances of Assoluto Racing.

Assoluto Racing: Home, Cars, and Tuning

Assoluto Racing features a good number of cars spanning different decades and among many nationalities of car. The car you start out with is the handsome Peugeot RCZ. As you start winning Credits and Coins, you will be able to pick up more cars and parts to upgrade your cars.

Cars.

The cars in Assoluto Racing are spread across 12 different manufacturers. Nationalities of car are from America, England, France, Germany, and Japan. There are about maybe 30 or so cars. So don't expect an entire world of cars from almost every manufacturer known to humanity.

Tuning.

When you purchase tuning parts for your car, you can make it perform better. Your car can be rated much higher with modifications. Here are the main departments of tuning for cars in Assoluto Racing:

• Wheel Shop: You can purchase new wheels for your car. You can also paint them a certain color.

• Paint Shop: Change the color of your car by purchasing a new color for it.

• Tuning Menu: Buy performance parts for your car. Purchase parts either with Credits or Coins. Upgrade options include the following: Exhaust, Engine, Transmission, Tires, Brakes, Turbo, Suspension, and Weight Reduction.

Others.

Here are other options when Home:

• Photo Mode: Take pictures of your car.

• Video Ads: View video ads. These are for various other games you can play. You can, of course, buy these other games or simply enjoy some video content. You can earn some extra Coins simply by watching these videos.

• Shop: "Assoluto Racing" is free to play. However, if you want to access extra content or earn extra currency, the game's in-app purchases are available to you. You can buy packs ranging from new cars to getting extra currency to use in the game. So if you want that powerful car or want to max out your car with what little in-game money you have, you can give yourself a lift by purchasing packs from the Shop.

That's the customization trail. Now on to the racing aspect.

Assoluto Racing: License Tests

Try to earn licenses by clearing a number of individual performance driving objectives. To clear each license test, you must clear the objective within the time limit. Collisions and going off-course will result in automatic disqualification. There are three classes of license tests:

• Beginner Class - the base class.

• Intermediate Class - advanced techniques required to pass.

• Advanced Class - greater technique and skill required to achieve.

Completion of these objectives earn your Credits and Coins. Progress in each class will net you completion bonuses. Getting all Gold will net you the biggest earnings. So go for Gold if you can!

Assoluto Racing: Racing Types

Remember that Assoluto Racing is not a wheel-to-wheel racing game. Instead, you are taking on a series of solo runs. Most of what you are taking part in will be featured in this section. Here is a look at some of the race series you will be taking part in...

Race Series.

The Race Series feature four different styles of racing available to you to compete in. Here ia a brief intro to each:

• Unmodified Series
Using unmodified, non-tuned cars, you will be competing in a series of one-lap affairs. The key to success lies in hitting the apexes of each course. The more you connect, the more success you achieve here. You also want to try to complete the event without going off-course or colliding into objects. Unlike in the License Tests, you will not be disqualified for not running a clean race. What WILL happen, however, is time penalties being added to your overall time for each foul. So try to clear these events as cleanly as possible.

• Modified Series
I haven't attempted these, but I am assuming this is like the Unmodified Series, only that you are allowed to use tuned cars.

• Drift Points
Got the knack to go sideways? Then go drifting! You obviously will need a car capable of landing drifts. Preferably balanced rear-wheel drive cars will suffice here. I have NOT attempted this mode in preparing my initial blog post.

• Free Run
Test your car around any number of tracks offered in the game. Laps can be set from one lap to 10 laps on the circuits, and the open circuits can last from one minute to ten minutes. You earn Credits by simply participating in races.

When you run various races, you can actually put your name among many people from around the world. Try to log the best times and put in the best performances to be the best Assoluto Racing drivers in the world!

Tracks.

Here is an overview of the tracks in Assoluto Racing:

• AR Official Raceway
A simple, yet challenging permanent road course. Layout resembles Fuji of the 1990s or High-Speed Ring in Gran Turismo games. Also in Reverse.

• Blue City
A brief temporary course on a Japanese city highway. Also in Reverse.

• Yamagata Circuit
A simple, yet complex permanent road course. Also in Reverse.

• Forest Path
A permanent medium-length road course that winds through a forest. Also in Reverse.

• Arines Ring
A long course with many complex and tricky corners. The layout is styled like Sepang International Circuit. Also in Reverse.

• Waldorf
A challenging road course with many twists and turns. Also in Reverse.

• Docks
An open course set at a seaport. Use this stage to drift or to insanely drive around the course. Be careful not to throw your car into the water (I actually did this as I was preparing my blog post!)!

• Daikokuten
A compact permanent road course meant for drifting.

• Sportsland Yamanashi
A rather short and narrow permanent road course meant for drifting. It is also good for precise driving.

• Touge
The game's only open circuit, this is a course set on paved mountain roads. Drift to your heart's content here or try to precisely take on the corners hillclimb style.

• Test Course
A high-speed, long oval. Use it to test for maximum speed.

• Circle Course
A course set on a small circle. Good for skidpad testing and handling testing.

I now will offer thoughts on Assoluto Racing in general.

Assoluto Racing: Thoughts

Now on to my thoughts regarding this game.

First Impressions.

It is hard not to be compelled by the graphics for the cars and the tracks. Everything is designed beautifully. The cars sound very good also.

The game handles well with a smartphone or a tablet, but I think it would be better with a gamepad or even a steering wheel. I would surely play this game a lot if it was made for Android TV. It would probably even be good for other mobile OSes that have TV versions (like Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV).

Final Thoughts.

"Assoluto Racing" is a racing game that should appeal to almost any fan of the Gran Turismo series (and even the Ridge Racer series). This is a simulation racer that offers a great racing model

If you're looking for a pure motorsports simulation, this is NOT your game. But if you want a game simply about the joy of driving and a love of performance driving, then surely give Assoluto Racing a try. You could probably do better with a Triple-A style racing game from a Triple-A style developer. However, if you don't care about all of that, you will be hard-pressed to find a better and more fun simulation type racing game than "Assoluto Racing."

If I had one real gripe with this game, I wished the game didn't try to exit out when you press the back button of your smartphone or tablet. If you want to go back in menus, tap on the back arrow in the game's screen; NOT the one on your device. Another gripe I've had is that after a collision and trying to recover, you have to basically slow the car back down in Automatic transmission to where you go back down to first gear. LOADS of time could be wasted trying to get the car back to driving again after a hard collision or a spin and in Automatic transmission.
