Why Play Each Gran Turismo?

John B. Marine | 10:46 PM | | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
If you never played any Gran Turismo game and want to try some, let me try to sell you on the GTs I have played. This post will be different. Instead of GT in general, it's why you should play each one. So what you will get from me is a look at why you should play (and hopefully enjoy) each of the Gran Turismo games I make mention to. This is all based on GT games I have played. And as a bonus, I'll even include... another Polyphony Digital title towards the end. Consider this my thanks and appreciation to you for taking a look at my blog and even caring to visit. With this said, let's get it!

Why Play Each Gran Turismo

The Gran Turismo series has been the basis of "John's Race Space" as well as for my very first blog. Through my time gaming, I have played most of the major Gran Turismo games. What I decided to do for this blog post is share with you why should play each individual GT that I have played before. That is correct- not why play the series in general, but why play the individual ones. I will share each segment discussing each of the Gran Turismo games I have played and why you should too if you haven't already. The posts will follow reasons based on the following:

• General reasons why to buy/play
• Vehicles, tuning, and customization
• Locations, racing, and license tests
• Summary

With all of this said, let's begin with the O.G.

Why Play: Gran Turismo 1.

The biggest reason why you should play Gran Turismo 1 is to simply enjoy what no racing/driving game has ever done before its inception. This game brought a level of challenge to racing while also introducing a great car culture. Even while the lineup of vehicles is very Japanese-biased, there still were some quality American and British vehicles for some diversity. Modifying and tuning cars you own is also a great experience. You may also be able to turn your street cars into full-on race cars with the Racing Modification. If you do not want to take a street car into racing spec, then do window shopping with the six "Special Model" cars readily available at the Japanese manufacturers for 500K Credits. If anything, get Gran Turismo 1 simply to gauge the potential this game would have towards its future. Remember that this game impacted racing/driving games as a whole; not just for Sony or consoles. It helps you appreciate the humble beginnings of this franchise leading up to the status this franchise enjoys today. All of this... beginning with Gran Turismo 1.

Why Play: Gran Turismo 2.

Gran Turismo 2 should be played because this began the maturation of the Gran Turismo franchise and further establish its identity to gaming and car culture. You can collect a variety of cars across different levels of performance and across different decades. The vehicles also come from many more car companies new to Gran Turismo. It further proves itself as an "encyclopedia of cars." The racing is faster and more intense than what you experienced in Gran Turismo 1. Since Gran Turismo 2 would be the swan song to Gran Turismo on the PlayStation 1, play this game to experience the evolution of the Gran Turismo experience before taking its appeal to the upcoming PlayStation 2.

Why Play: Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec.

Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec offers one of the most exciting and intense racing experiences ever in a Gran Turismo game. What resulted from the "Gran Turismo 2000" project was a game with impressive visuals at a greater frame rate that would elevate the Gran Turismo experience to new heights. While this game has a lot less cars than GT2, Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec has most of its manufacturers return along with some new companies. Have you the money, you could race Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec with the new (at its time) Logitech Driving Force steering wheel for greater precision and realism. This game also debuted racing on wet tarmac. This provided both a new challenge but also some extra focus on the graphical capabilities of Gran Turismo on the PS2. GT3 is both a visual powerhouse and and a mind-blowing racing experience. While Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec may seem like a letdown in some departments compared to GT2 (and even GT1 to an extent), this game still is worth a play to see the evolution from PlayStation 1 to PlayStation 2. I later looked at Gran Turismo 3 as a prettier Gran Turismo 2. This also happens to be a more capable GT title than the others before it despite its faults.

Why Play: Gran Turismo 4.

Get Gran Turismo 4 because it represented the biggest quantum leap in appeal and performance for the Gran Turismo series. Gran Turismo 4 was even becoming intriguing for having online play... until online play was later scrapped. A greater variety of this game's 600 or so vehicles and races means this game will keep you busy. You even can drive some of the very first motorized cars dating back to 1886! Variety in locations let you take on everything from original Gran Turismo tracks to a handful of real-world tracks and real-world locations. If you love your vehicles so much that you want to show them off to the world, try the new Photo Mode. Take pictures while racing or at a number of real-world locations exclusively for photography. While controversial, try B-Spec in most of the races if you are not a good racer or do not have the ability to complete a race on your own. You still have to send commands to your B-Spec racer to properly race. It essentially makes you play the role of race strategist. Races lasting from one lap on a long track to 24 hours on end await you in your quest towards immortality in GT4. The way future Gran Turismo games would shape up, Gran Turismo 4 represents the Gran Turismo experience at its peak. No Gran Turismo before it has delivered on so much hype and anticipation. You may not have online play. You may not have (certain specific auto makers). You still have no real damage. Even without these things, you still have a Gran Turismo experience in GT4 that is as complete and as in-depth as possible. These reasons alone are enough reason to give Gran Turismo 4 a try.

Why Play: Gran Turismo 5.

For its foray into PlayStation 3 power, Gran Turismo 5 delivers on more impressive visuals, greater automotive detail, time and weather variable events and races, the first proper damage model for vehicles, and online play among reasons to play GT5. Influence from NASCAR, the World Rally Championship, and BBC's "Top Gear" play roles in the Gran Turismo 5 experience. The big news with the vehicles in Gran Turismo 5 is the inclusion of three companies finally making their first appearance in a major Gran Turismo- Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bugatti. Some of the cars come from Gran Turismo PSP, released between the time of GT4 and GT5. For an exclusive experience, this game even features the Red Bull Prototypes offering the most incredible (and sometimes surreal) pure race car experience. You can experience much more docile vehicles like the series debut of go-karts. While your tuning options are deeper, guess what returns (to an extent)? Racing Modifications! Later enhancements to Gran Turismo 5 include collect racing suits and racing helmets to customize your appearance to the Gran Turismo world. Races range from short lengths to 24 hours of racing. A-Spec and B-Spec make a return. The latter now makes you take on the role of a race strategist rather than B-Spec controversially doing races for you. Gran Turismo 5 now let you save during longer races. This is helpful to try to win the long races. I personally think Gran Turismo 5 could have been a much greater game than what we ended up with. However, just to savor the experience of racing and tuning and car collecting, Gran Turismo 5 is definitely worth the purchase and worth wanting to play. The biggest fault is the discrimination of Premium and Standard Cars. It is otherwise still worth your time and money to play.

Why Play: Gran Turismo 6.

Gran Turismo 6 did not do too much to set itself apart from GT5, but it mostly righted some of the many wrongs of GT5. This game delivers what seems to be a more elegant package than Gran Turismo 5. GT5 seemed like too many ideas without great execution. GT6 is not as detailed. I find Gran Turismo 6 to be more inviting to casual racing gamers as opposed to the more adept sim racing set. Now don't get me wrong- the sim-oriented crowd still will get a kick out of this game. It is just that GT6 provides an easier experience for the casual or inexperienced racing gamer. As an extra perk, you even can enjoy playing Gran Turismo 6 with a proper style of astronomical simulation for night races. Gran Turismo 6 is not as fixated on licenses as any other GT. Yet still, you have a bunch of races to choose from across multiple skill levels. You can even take part in events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The endurances are now way more condensed than in past GT titles. This may disappoint veteran fans of Gran Turismo but help out new and casual racing gamers. As with GT5, a lot of Gran Turismo 6's racing appeal mostly lies in online racing. If you want to try something unique, take part in the Lunar Missions, whereas you compete in different challenges simulating operating a lunar vehicle on the moon. You also could make your own generated courses like in Gran Turismo 5. Only now, you have just a bit more control than in GT5. Gran Turismo 6 basically is worth the play if you were disappointed with Gran Turismo 5 and wanted something better than what GT5 eventually became. Or if you are not as experienced as a simulation racer, this game is much easier in entry into the franchise than past titles. While this description does not sound too exciting from me, this is still a game that warrants a play and has room for your game collection. It just did not do too much to differentiate itself from the other Gran Turismo games before it. Even still, this provides a marginally better experience than Gran Turismo 5.

Okay. So you made it this far. Congratulations! Let me give you a bonus "Why Play?" to close out this post.

Why Play: Tourist Trophy (BONUS!)

Let me see if I can convince you to add Tourist Trophy to your gaming collection. Check it...

For all intents and purposes, Tourist Trophy is basically Gran Turismo 4 with motorcycles. Despite this, Tourist Trophy operates a lot differently than any Gran Turismo. This game lets you ride and race a handful of motorcycles ranging from scooters to motards to many different sport bikes. Even with a maximum of four motorcycles to a track (including yours), the experience is still a challenging and engaging one. Learn proper riding technique if you intend to win. Remember that riding a motorcycle entails different techniques than in racing a car. You can even intricately set up your rider with elements like height and lean angle. You can also collect gear to outfit your rider. On street bikes, you can have some casual riding clothes to wear. If you're the racing type, collect the different racing suits and helmets. Each bike is featured in great detail from the in-bike view with working gauges and other intricate details. For the ultimate challenge and sense of accomplishment- try to win all five of the Eight Hours of Suzuka motorcycles featured in this game. While most of the tarmac tracks from Gran Turismo 4 return for Tourist Trophy, not all tracks allow for a full field of motorcycles. For the ones that do offer a full field, you still can ride the wheels off of your motorcycle across most of Gran Turismo 4's tarmac tracks. Some of the courses have been modified to include their motorcycle layout. You also get a course exclusive to Tourist Trophy- Valencia (the Ricardo Tormo Circuit). Even if Tourist Trophy is mostly Gran Turismo 4 with motorcycles, it is still a great game to play. This game will let you enjoy the thrill of motorcycle riding and motorcycle racing even if you are not as big a fan of motorcycles.

I tried to include most of the major titles. The ones I have not played or played enough of I didn't review. Those include:

• Gran Turismo PSP
• Gran Turismo SPORT (I may skip this title)
• Gran Turismo 7

Maybe if I get to play them more in depth in the future, I will provide my own thoughts on why you should play these titles.

This blog post is completed for the most part. You may either take part in the next section or skip it entirely if it does not interest you. Your call.

Would Gran Turismo 4 Be Better Online?

John B. Marine | 5:30 PM | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
Early in its development, Gran Turismo 4 was supposed to be the first Gran Turismo with online multiplayer. Unfortunately, online play was not implemented for GT4. GT4 still ended up being an amazing game. However, could Gran Turismo 4 have been better had it actually implemented online multiplayer? This is more a commentary piece of mine than any educational material regarding GT4. So welcome to another post of "John's Race Space!"

Before I Begin...

Today (November 21) marks the anniversary of this blog named as "John's Race Space" from its original name of "John's Gran Turismo Space!"

Would Gran Turismo 4 Be Better With Online?

Gran Turismo 4 racing
^ from: (YouTube) - Could Gran Turismo 4 be better if it had online multiplayer, as previously promised?

Gran Turismo 4 had the early promise of being the first online multiplayer Gran Turismo title. Extensive work was done in preparation for this game to make its online debut. However, it was later reported that Polyphony Digital would drop the online play for GT4. This made GT4 as just another non-online GT title.

Just because Gran Turismo 4 lacked online play didn't mean people were unable to find workarounds. In fact, there was some pseudo online interactivity by connecting their PC to XLink Kai for LAN (local area network) play. Such methods give PlayStation 2 units the feeling of being connected online. People still somewhat managed to set up online multiplayer races in GT4 across LAN with this method.

In the classical sense, I always believe games should have a robust package offline and online. How much of a priority and of what level of importance online play is should be considered strongly outside of the base single player model. Do not make increased concentration of online play if a game's offline model is weak. A few differences in this would surface in later titles like Gran Turismo 5, Gran Turismo 6, and Gran Turismo SPORT. Let me go into further detail about this.

Gran Turismo 4 Offline and Online

This section delves into the deeper points regarding varying levels of concentration on offline and online content. Take a look.

Could GT4 Have Benefited from Proper Online?

The idea of an online-enabled Gran Turismo leads to having more replay value as you do not have to rely on only the in-game races. However, you may not have much to fall back on when the official servers are not active any longer. Think about when your Internet goes down or if your cellular phone coverage is down. What do you have to fall back on? If you do not have a reliance on online content, you have something interesting to fall back on. Conversely, if you do have a reliance on online content, a vast majority of content for that game ends up going kaput.

People could surely set up leagues and special races within Gran Turismo 4 to play online. Not having these online items would have cheapened Gran Turismo 4. Despite this, Gran Turismo 4 most has remained a solid Gran Turismo title. One of the advantages of online play is that you can take on actual human opposition instead of shoddy AI. Many a GT gamer have complained about overaggressive AI and rubber band AI in Gran Turismo games.

To me, the disappointments of this has led to some people finding other racing games, such as the upstart Forza Motorsport during GT4's development. One of those factors includes a lack of online multiplayer. People who mostly defected from Gran Turismo to Forza Motorsport at that time were more than pleased with what Forza Motorsport had to offer compared to Gran Turismo 4. A lot of games on the XBOX were tied religiously to XBOX Live, so you know you could enjoy solid competition anywhere in the world against people around the world. Since GT4 didn't have online play as promised previously, this meant most people had to settle for having local multiplayer without any sort of online connection.

Structure of Gran Turismo 4 With Online Play.

The disappointment of Gran Turismo 4 not having online multiplayer meant its would-be value was diminished. If Gran Turismo 4 had proper online multiplayer, it would open up two different avenues. Consider the following.

The first avenue would be how to structure Gran Turismo 4. Do you focus GT4 primarily on offline play while also offering a solid online model, or do you try to have an even balance of offline and online play? As long as you don't seem like you force people to play online to continue a game's lifespan, the game's appeal doesn't really take a serious hit.

The other avenue is on how to structure both an offline and online model of GT4. Could you possibly increase the concentration more on online play, leaving for a fairly weak offline system? Online play remains fun until the official servers are shut down. You don't want to leave someone with less of an experience with the single player as you probably could have with a combination of online and offline.

As evidence proven by the later Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6, the thing I would fear most is for Gran Turismo 4 to lack a sufficient offline model since you are somehow relying on online play to be more paramount than offline play. Even Gran Turismo SPORT eventually adopted single player elements to offset its previous online-only game play model. Gran Turismo 4 is fairly deep with its Gran Turismo mode. GT4 would probably have a very weak offline mode if its concentration on online play is stronger than its single player elements. The good news is that the offline material doesn't have to be as detailed since you have online play to fall back on. Since you don't have as much to focus on in the offline realm, you can afford to not make action as stringent because some people enjoy the multiplayer experience more than the single player experience. Having both in a game extends the appeal and lifespan of that game. Online-only games are mostly dead once the servers are shut down.

Is Gran Turismo 4 Better Offline?

Even if Gran Turismo 4 lacked proper online play, is it better offline? I would argue it would be. Having an online model means you have to enjoy a game while it lasts. An online-enabled game is not likely to be enjoyed online for eternity as the servers are shut down. I am someone who sees online multiplayer more as a perk than a necessity. It is only a necessity if you feel it is needed the game has to have online multiplayer to keep its appeal. And to me, it is important to have a solid single player experience rather than rely on online play to keep it relevant and active. Online multiplayer should bolster a game, not carry it. There wouldn't be too much outside of online multiplayer if Gran Turismo 4 relied on online multiplayer rather than have a mix of offline and online.

People would still complain over most of the usual things regarding Gran Turismo 4 even with online multiplayer. For instance, people would still complain over the car list not having the big manufactures (Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc.), a lack of damage, weak sounds, shoddy AI, and stuff like that. At least GT4 having online play means you won't have to take on AI opposition all the time. It also means you aren't restricted to the original races set up by Polyphony Digital. It goes both ways.

I still think Gran Turismo 4 would be great with or without online multiplayer. I see online multiplayer more as a nice bonus rather than anything necessarily needed. GT4's model would have to be incredibly modified to make for a better experience of offline and online. All in all, maybe not having online play in GT4 was a GOOD decision as it could probably wanted to make a better online model for Gran Turismo than what was previously planned for GT4.

That's what I think about GT4 and online multiplayer. What say you? Feel free to comment! Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Gran Turismo 6 One-Make Races

John B. Marine | 10:35 PM | | Be the first to comment!
Gran Turismo 6 has One-Make Races you can unlock and take part in. These races will test your racing ability, granted you have the correct car. Having the same car means it comes down to the driver as to who will win. You wish your lucky stars it's you who wins the race. I'm here in this blog post to feature the One-Make Races of Gran Turismo 6. Welcome to "John's Race Space!"

About the Label: "One-Make Races"

Posts under this Label are all about the One-Make Races of Gran Turismo titles. Rather than a collection of cars all racing at once, these events are more about a collective gathering of a certain vehicle racing against itself or different variations of the same vehicle.

Gran Turismmo 6: One-Make Races at a Glance

Gran Turismo 6 One-Make Races
^ When the cars are of the same and from the same make, who claims victory in a race comes down to the driver!

One-Make Races are nothing new in the Gran Turismo realm. In fact, it was Gran Turismo 2 in which this style of racing made its debut. One-Make Races are races specifically for a certain car. Some One-Make Races can allow for the player to choose between any model of the car that fits regulations. For example, a One-Make Race involving the Mazda Miata/MX-5 may allow for the player to choose between any model of the Miata/MX-5 to compete in the event. So you may choose the ND-model Miata to compete against older or younger versions of the car. In some cases, a One-Make Race may even allow for either normal variants of a specific car or racing variants of that car.

The one thing you want to be mindful of is to pick a certain car and then worry about if any level of tuning is allowed. If there are no restrictions, you can almost basically max out your car and get an easy win. Gran Turismo 6, however, doesn't allow for too much liberties. You have to keep your car within the Performance Points (PP) limit. The safe thing you can do is upgrade certain specifications that do not affect PP, such as suspension and transmission options. Most of what will affect PP is with modifications to horsepower or weight. You will need to dial in ballast or tone down the horsepower if you are over the PP limit.

Since these are a set of races involving a specific car, what you may want to do is purchase some of these vehicles early so you can race them in the respective One-Make Races. If you need to enhance the performance of each required car, do so within the PP regulations. Every One-Make Race requires Sports tires except for the International A One-Make Races, where you can use Racing tires.

This will be a single post featuring all of the One-Make Races in Gran Turismo 6. You will need to unlock these events through earning Stars in each level of racing that has One-Make Races. There are no One-Make Races in Novice, Super levels, or the Red Bull X Challenge. You can not earn any Stars for success in these One-Make Races. Therefore, these are mostly side races you can take part in to earn more Credits.

Gran Turismo 6: One-Make Races

This is the main section regarding One-Make Races. The material in parentheses () represents the level in which the One-Make Race is raced under.

Prius Cup (B).

Tires: Sports Hard or Less
Car(s): 2009 Prius G, 2003 Toyota PRIUS G Touring Selection (J), 2002 Toyota PRIUS G (J), ???? Toyota PRIUS Touring Car

A Toyota Prius is not going to make you the coolest person in car discussions. The Toyota Prius is the world's most well-known hybrid car. The Prius debuted in Gran Turismo 2. The ones you'll be using are of the modern Prius. So prepare yourself to take on this One-Make Race challenge around England's Silverstone Circuit. Only here, you will be racing the National circuit. Victory shouldn't be too hard to come by. If you really want to make a statement, invest in the Prius Touring Car.

Prize:
GOLD: 7,390 Cr.
SILVER: 4,810 Cr.
BRONZE: 3,700 Cr.

86 vs. BRZ Festival (B).

Track: Fuji Speedway F

In the late 2000s and early 2010s, a joint effort between Toyota and Subaru led to the creation of an affordable sports car with a boxer (or horizontally-opposed) engine. That creation came in three forms- the Toyota 86, the Scion FR-S, and the Subaru BR-Z. Whichever one tickles your fancy, you will be racing this modern boxer sports car around the modern Fuji Speedway. You can choose any model of this car that is within regulations. Though, if you want to be the safest, you may want to bring the 2013 Toyota 86 "Racing" to this One-Make event.

The BMW 1 Series is the entry level series of automobiles from BMW. The 1 Series debuted in 2004. These days, unfortunately, the new entry level BMW series is the 2 Series. What you will be racing here are 1 Series BMWs around the Grand Prix configuration of the Nürburgring. These cars handle well and are not too powerful. So you should be able to win this One-Make Race without fearing the cars snapping on you at any given moment.

The Honda Civic has long been an amazing economy car with some sporty performance. A lot of people were awed of it being a tuner favorite, especially among "The Fast and the Furious." Honda Civic tuners are usually a dime a dozen. In this One-Make Race, you wlll be racing the Honda Civic around the Suzuka Circuit.

Roadster Touring Car

You either love or loathe the Mazda Miata/MX-5. A lot of people do because it's slow and "girly." I say it is still one of the most affordable sports cars you can buy. It won't cost you an arm and a leg to own and enjoy one of these cars. What you WILL need to do, though, is take one of these machines around the tight and short confines of Tsukuba Circuit. This is nothing new if you are a Gran Turismo veteran to race Miatas/MX-5s around Tsukuba, because you've been doing it since Gran Turismo 4 around this track. Complete eight laps around this course in your Mazda Miata/MX-5. Try to go for the win!

Prize:
GOLD: 21,110 Cr.
SILVER: 13,700 Cr.
BRONZE: 10,500 Cr.

Elise Trophy (IB).

Track: Brands Hatch Grand Prix
Laps: 3

PP: 550 or less
Tires: Sports Hard or less
Car(s): 2004 Lotus Elise 111R, 2011 Lotus Elise, 2003 Lotus Elise 111S, 2001 Lotus Elise Type 72, 2000 Lotus Elise, 1998 Lotus Elise Sport 190, Lotus Elise 1996, 2004 Lotus Elise 111R Race Car, 1996 Lotus Elise Race Car

"Light makes might." The modern embodiment of what Colin Chapman propsed to the automotive world is done so today with the Lotus Elise. You will have the honor of racing these lightweight sports cars around the historic Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. Bear in mind that the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit packs a lot of race track in such minimal space. The corners can be quite tricky. While the Elise is no ferocious beast of a sports car, you still need to keep your lightweight Elise between the white lines as much as you can. Now do Lotus proud by winning this one.

Prize:
GOLD: 41,000 Cr.
SILVER: 26,600 Cr.
BRONZE: 20,500 Cr.

America's sports car is the Chevrolet Corvette. You will be racing a Corvette against Corvettes around Southern California's Willow Springs International Raceway. You are actually about an hour's drive north of Los Angeles with a track that seems like it is in the middle of nowhere. This track will surprise you if you take its challenge lightly. Put forth a solid drive in whatever Corvette you choose to race in this race meeting.

Dance With the Aventadors (IA).

Track: Circuito de Madrid
Laps: 5

PP: 610 or less
Tires: Racing Hard or less
Car(s): 2011 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4

How fitting- Running of the Bulls in Spain... only these bulls are fierce Lamborghini Aventadors roaming the streets of Madrid, Spain! This is the only One-Make Race that happens on a temporary street circuit. Madrid is a tough and grinding course. It can be tough to try to race a solid line here considering the barriers and the tight corners and hairpins. While the Aventador is fast and powerful, it is not exactly a handling gem. You may need to do some tuning to get this Italian beast to handle as good as its horsepower and speed. You can slap on some Racing Hard tires to help in the handling department, though.

Prize:
GOLD: 68,900 Cr.
SILVER: 44,800 Cr.
BRONZE: 34,400 Cr.

Ferrari 458 Challenge (IA).

Track: Autodromo Nazionale Monza
Laps: 4

PP: 590 or less
Tires: Racing Hard or Less
Car(s): 2009 Ferrari 458 Italia

Autodromo Nazionale Monza is one of the world's oldest race tracks, first raced in the 1920s. Forza Ferrari! You will be racing the 458 Italia around today's Monza. Something to keep in mind is how fast this track is despite some very decisive corners. The one thing you need to be careful of is to make sure you avoid cutting the chicanes and some of the other corners.

Prize:
GOLD: 64,700 Cr.
SILVER: 42,000 Cr.
BRONZE: 32,300 Cr.

GT-R Maestros (IA).

Track: Nürburgring Nordschleife
Laps: 1

PP: 650
Tires: Racing Hard or Less
Car(s): ???? Nissan GT-R R35 Touring Car, 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition, 2009 Nissan GT-R SpecV, 2007 Nissan GT-R, 2013 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 N24 Schulze Motorsport, 2013 GT-R NISMO GT3, 2013 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 Base Model, 2013 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 15th Anniv., 2012 Nissan GT-R N24 GT Academy, 2011 Nissan GT-R N24 Schulze Motorsport, ???? Nissan GT-R Concept LM Race Car, 2007 GT-R Black Mask, 2005 Nissan GT-R Proto, 2001 Nissan GT-R Concept (Tokyo Motor Show 2001)

The last of the One-Make Races takes you on a romp around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. You can use any of the Nissan GT-R/Skyline models that are eligible for entry here, but it is recommended you get the Nissan GT-R R35 Touring Car, since that is what the opposition will mostly use. The GT-R Touring Car handles the Nürburgring Nordschleife very well. You may be rather surprised how well it is able to tackle the many corners and tricky sections of this famed German automotive battleground. Do your best to try to pass all of the other cars and leave the Nordschleife with a One-Make Race win.

Prize:
GOLD: 61,300 Cr.
SILVER: 39,800 Cr.
BRONZE: 30,600 Cr.

That's all! Good luck to you in all of these races!

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - Super

John B. Marine | 11:59 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
Mission Races now are at the toughest and with the fastest cars. You went through four of them, and now the fifth and final set awaits you. Become a racing genius or fall. That is your choice. So let's make you a Champion, eh? New post ready to go!

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races

The Mission Races test your ability to pass cars while also clearing the course within a given par time. These events will make you try to drive properly while making sure to avoid making crucial mistakes. Passing a car or cars is only part of clearing the Mission Races. You need to try to pass your opponent(s) while also making sure to clear the course in a given time. So treat these Mission Races like License Tests. You can not earn any Stars for completion of Mission Races, but you can earn money for clearing each Mission Race. Try to earn Gold in each Mission Race if you can.

Each Mission Race consists of five events. The first four events are all section-based events using a certain section of the given facility. The final Mission Race is a lap-based event around a certain track. Success in the Mission Races involve overtaking vehicles while also clearing the course in a fast time. It is not, however, required you pass all the vehicles in the given run. You just need to clear the event as quickly as you can. If you commit any of these fouls during the course of a Mission Race:

• you completely leave the course
• you collide hard into a barrier
• you hit an obstacle (such as a cone)
• you collide hard into a rival car

...your run will be disqualified, and you must try that Mission Race again. If you fail to complete the Mission Race within the par time, you will not receive any award. So make sure to complete the race in time and try to complete it with a quick time.

GT6 Mission Races: The Series.

This section will be edited once all blog posts on each Mission Race set are all completed. Here is the series as slated:

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - National B
Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - National A
Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - International B
Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - International A
• Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - Super (YOU ARE HERE)

There are no Mission Races for the National License. Each of the above links will be edited as posts for each one is complete. You need to have a certain number of Stars in each level of racing in Gran Turismo 6 to unlock the Mission Races.

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races: Super

Gran Turismo 6 Super Mission Races
^ This final set of Mission Races may be challenging, but you can do it! Hang in there!

This is the last set of Mission Races. Let's complete them all!

S-1: Prototype Racing Car Battle.

Car: 1991 Mazda 787B
Course: Circuit de la Sarthe 2013
Mission Type: Section

Some question whether prototype sportscars or Formula 1 style cars are the best racing cars ever conceived. You will be racing the Mazda 787B, which won the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans, and at its time, the first Japanese manufacturer to win Le Mans outright. You will be racing the modern Circuit de la Sarthe ranging from the entrance of the Porsche Curves to the Start/Finish line in this Mission Race. Your four-rotor beast will be singing soprano style as you drive fiercely through this section. Just make sure to pass the other two cars you share the track with in addition to trying to clear this Mission Race. The Porsche Curves are tricky to navigate. Pick your spot carefully if you are trying to pass one of the two cars in this challenge. In fact, you may want to pass the first car during (or even after) the Porsche Curves rather than before entering the Porsche Curves. The rest of the way has a bunch of extra tricky kinks to unwind your car if you are not careful. Most importantly, try not to leave the course even with your monstrous Mazda.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 43.500
• SILVER: 45.000
• BRONZE: 49.000

S-2: Dream Car Battle.

Car: ???? Citroen GT by Citroen Race Car
Course: Special Stage Route 5
Mission Type: Section

Two-thirds of Special Stage Route 5 will be used in this Mission Race. You will be using the futuristic Citroen GT by Citroen on these city highways at night. Something to remember as you are weaving through the downtown buildings is that you are racing around a street course with fairly sufficient lighting and not too challenging corners. It will take a lot of patience on your behalf to try to properly navigate this city street course while also making sure not to whack the barriers on either side of the course or any of the two cars that share the track with you.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 50.500
• SILVER: 53.000
• BRONZE: 58.000

S-3: White Hot - Chamonix Showdown.

Car: ???? Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Rally Car
Course: Chamonix - Main
Mission Type: Section

Let's get one thing straight- this is NOT the Chamonix you are used to from Gran Turismo 4. The location may have returned, but the track is the same one you recall from Gran Turismo 5. Your mount this time is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X in rally racing trim. Instead of dirt or gravel for off-roading, you are racing on snow and ice. Snow and ice have much less traction than dirt or gravel. You thankfully have a car that can take on these surfaces properly. So make good use of this Mitsubishi as you navigate your way around this treacherous, snowy French course. Three other cars are on the track for this challenge. Be careful when closing in on the other drivers as they kick up snow. You can draw in too close to where you can initiate car contact and end up being disqualified. Try to stay within the snow banks as much as you can. Finally, be extra careful taking on the tough set of corners before reaching the Finish of this section.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 1:09.500
• SILVER: 1:11.000
• BRONZE: 1:15.000

S-4: Close Combat - Battle at Brands Hatch.

Car: 2004 Lotus Elise 111R
Course: Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit
Mission Type: Section

You are back at Branda Hatch for another Mission Race. This time, though, you are using the Grand Prix course. You will be racing almost all of the Indy course before transitioning to the Grand Prix course. That is the makeup of this section. Your car is the Lotus Elise 111R. While it is not the best offering from Lotus, it is a plenty capable automobile for you to race around this section of Brands Hatch. It can be easy to make a mistake around this track, so make sure you keep mistakes to a minimum handling around this course while trying to pass the three other cars.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 40.800
• SILVER: 42.000
• BRONZE: 45.000

S-5: Old Meets New - Ford GT Showdown!

Car: 1966 Ford GT40 Mark 1
Course: Nürburgring Nordschleife
Mission Type: 1 Lap

This is the final Mission Race challenge. You must race one lap around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a Ford GT. People often call the Nordschleife as "Green Hell." To most others, it is driving Heaven. I already reminded you how much I love the Nordschleife in my International A Mission Race blog post, so let me just say you will enjoy this challenge if you love this track. This is a very long track with many corners and narrow roads. Matters won't be helped much considering you are racing a vintage sports car. It doesn't have the modern technologies and driving dynamics that your opponent Ford GT has, but you still have a capable racing machine that can lap this course fairly well. My biggest piece of advice to you- learn the track and learn the car. Don't focus on Gold until you have mastered both. To get Gold, you are going to have to be near perfect around a course that is almost 13 miles long with many corners getting in your way. Take your time. In addition to racing a brutally difficult race course, time is passing rapidly as evening becomes night. The race actually start at 15:00 (3:00 PM 12-hour time). You have SOME leeway in this race because you can actually go off-course and not be disqualified. Other than that, colliding with any barrier or the other car will disqualify you. Take advantage of this liberty especially if you are terrible at the Nordschlife like I am. Long story short... don't try to be a hero/heroine here. Just get to the finish line by any means necessary without getting disqualified. GOOD LUCK clearing this one- you're going to need it (and then some).

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 7:50.000
• SILVER: 8:00.000
• BRONZE: 9:00.000

If you cleared all of the Mission Races, congratulations! Your quest (at least among the Mission Races) is over. You can always go back to any of the Mission Races to improve your times.

This post concludes the set of Mission Races in Gran Turismo 6. I wish you well in completing all of these challenges. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - International A

John B. Marine | 11:49 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
Gran Turismo 6 is not going to get any easier now that you are in the International A Mission Race events. Polyphony Digital and Kazunori Yamauchi won't do you any favors in this one. Time again to demonstrate your racing skill in some tough Mission Races. I'll describe what to expect, your job is to clear each challenge to the best of your ability. Sounds good? Then let's go!

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races

The Mission Races test your ability to pass cars while also clearing the course within a given par time. These events will make you try to drive properly while making sure to avoid making crucial mistakes. Passing a car or cars is only part of clearing the Mission Races. Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races: International A

Gran Turismo 6 International A Mission Races
^ You're in some trouble now! Try to prove yourself in this set of Mission Races.

Let's see how great you really are with this set of Mission Races.

IA-1: Super GT500 Class Battle.

Car: 1997 Toyota Castol Tom's Supra
Course: Suzuka Circuit
Mission Type: Section

The Super GT series used to be known as the JGTC- the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship. You will be racing a car from the JGTC time around mostly Suzuka East. The course ends under the overpass of this Figure-8 (or "Figure of 8" as some call it) course. This class of car you are competing with is the GT500 class, in which cars are usually no more powerful than 500 brake horsepower. You are racing against two other GT500 class racing cars. Nothing comes easy at Suzuka. Got to earn everything. It may take a lot of work to try to pass both cars in this Mission Race. You can handle it, though, right?

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 47.200
• SILVER: 49.000
• BRONZE: 54.000

IA-2: Group GT3 Battle.

Car: 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3
Course: Nürburgring GP/F
Mission Type: Section

The next two Mission Races have you racing around the Nürburgring. I can tell you personally that I am NOT good at the Nürburgring. So I am not going to lie to you about how easy it is to race this course. Starting with this Mission Race, you will be racing the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 around a portion of the Nürburgring Grand Prix course. You will mostly be using the second half of this course ending after the chicane that leads onto the Pit Road entrance (or leading to the entry to the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring when any of the Nordschleife configurations are used). Regardless, the SLS AMG GT3 is a mostly a solid GT3 racing car, but it has a good deal of understeer dialed into its handling characteristics. Try to drive carefully and quickly to pass the other two cars.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 42.800
• SILVER: 44.000
• BRONZE: 47.000

IA-3: The Future's Dark - Nürburgring Battle.

Car: 2013 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 N24 Schulze Motorsport
Course: Nürburgring 24h
Mission Type: Section

NOW is the time to start quaking in your shoes (if you're wearing any) racing the Nürburgring Nordschleife. You can sort of think of this Mission Race as using the opening of the Nordschleife from the Grand Prix circuit as the starting point and then using the first segment of the Nordschleife like from the AMG Driving Academy in Gran Turismo 5. I am not good at the Nürburgring, and I am even worse around any configuration using the Nordschleife. So my advice is this- be thankful you have a car that can properly handle the Nordschleife instead of trying to use something like a Le Mans prototype or some high-end formula race car. The road narrows up and has some challenging corners when you race on the Nordschleife. Its narrow and twisty roads make this one of the most challenging courses in the world. It is recommended you try to learn how to race the Nordschleife proper before trying to take on this challenge. I loathe racing the Nordschleife, but I hope you will be able to clear this challenge as best as you can despite my whining.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 1:12.800
• SILVER: 1:15.000
• BRONZE: 1:19.000

IA-4: Ruling the Rain - Skirmish at Spa.

Car: ???? Skyline GT-R R34 Touring Car
Course: Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Mission Type: Section

For the first time, you not only have to deal with passing your opponents, but also dealing with Mother Nature. The legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium is the track you will be racing and under wet conditions. Racing in the rain means you must deal with having limited visibility and a loss of traction. Even having the most grippy racing tires will not guarantee you success in properly racing around this Grand Prix motor racing track. This Mission Race utilizes the Start/Finish line after the super-tight first corner. You are mostly racing the first half of Spa-Francorchamps in this challenge. Try to get Eau Rouge right followed by the two turns after the long romp after Eau Rouge. The most important thing to remember is that the track is wet with rain falling. Traction and racing discipline are musts to clearing this challenge and passing the other three cars on the track. You also must deal with rain water being kicked up while the other cars are on track. This will NOT be easy, so take your time and drive carefully.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 1:04.500
• SILVER: 1:07.000
• BRONZE: 1:11.000

IB-5: Old Meets New - Ferrari Showdown!

Car: 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT
Course: Apricot Hill Raceway
Mission Type: 1 Lap

You will not be able to complete the IA Mission Races unless you clear the previous four events along with this one. You will be racing the Ferrari Dino 246 GT, named for Enzo Ferrari's son, Dino. It is an absolutely beautiful classic car. You're racing a car from the 1970s, but your opponent is one of the latest (at the time of this game) Ferraris- the Ferrari 458 Italia. Remember Apricot Hill? You will be racing this track using your classic '70s sports car. Unlike the Mission Race under night conditions with the KTM, you will be racing this course in broad daylight, and you will also be racing a full lap around Apricot Hill. Try to keep the Dino 246 GT under control in the corners. You can easily spin this car out if you are not careful. I know full well because... this beautiful car that I love so much... happened to be the first car I rolled over and put on its roof in Gran Turismo 6. So take caution racing this thing!

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 1:45.500
• SILVER: 1:48.000
• BRONZE: 1:53.000

Another one down. Great job! But guess what? There's one more Mission Race set ready to test your skills to the extreme!

This post is just one in a series of posts lined up regarding the Mission Races of GT6. There is still a ways to go in discussing this series of races, so stay tuned to JRS for more in the series! Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - International B

John B. Marine | 11:24 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
By now, you probably realize the higher levels of Gran Turismo equate to tougher challenges. Well, International B Mission Races will be tougher than anything you've faced so far in the National level Mission Races. You still can take these events! Allow me to welcome you to the International level of Mission Races in Gran Turismo 6. I'll be here to introduce you to these challenging events.

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - National B
Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - National A

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races: International B

Gran Turismo 6 International A Mission Races
^ Prepare to be tested on multiple levels here with multiple challenges here in the International B Mission Race set..

If you want to test your abilities further, be sure you're prepared for what is ahead of you in the International B Mission Races!

IB-1: Supercar Battle.

Car: 1994 Cizeta V16T
Course: Autumn Ring
Mission Type: Section

You were probably one of the ones who complained about a lack of real supercars in Gran Turismo 4 when you saw the Cizeta V16T. Or maybe you thought this was some fantasy car. Well, you're wrong on both counts if you felt this way before. This supercar actually exists and is a proper supercar. Put this supercar to good use by passing the opposing cars around Autumn Ring. You will be racing from past the Start/Finish line of the Autumn Ring Mini course to approaching pit entrance of the Autumn Ring main course. Autumn Ring is not an easy course. Screwing up is almost entirely too easy. So make sure to stay on the road as much as you can and try to find a decent line that will take you around the course properly. Also, make sure you properly handle this supercar around the corners of this twisty course.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 36.500
• SILVER: 37.500
• BRONZE: 41.000

IB-2: Historic Race Car Battle.

Car: 1966 Jaguar XJ13
Course: Circuit de la Sarthe 2013
Mission Type: Section

The course is modern, but the cars are not. Care is needed when racing an older car. This is your first Mission Race using a proper race car. The course uses the section between past Turn 1 of Circuit de la Sarthe to the tricky Tertre Rouge. You are battling two other classic beauties in this Mission Race. It will be tough passing both cars while trying to wrestle this Jaguar around this section.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 34.500
• SILVER: 36.000
• BRONZE: 40.000

IB-3: Kicking Up Dust - Battle for Toscana.

Car: 1986 Audi quattro S1 Rally Car
Course: Toscana
Mission Type: Section

From your first race car Mission Race, you now enter your first off-road Mission Race. You will be doing so racing a Group B rally beast- the Audi quattro S1. This course utilizes the end of the very long sweeping right to the long backstretch of Toscana. If you want to make it through this lovely Italian countryside course, you'd better utilize this Audi for all its worth. Remember that it takes a different set of skills to properly navigate a rally course. One thing to be careful of is trying not to get caught up in the dust being kicked up by the other three rally cars. Drive this course carefully and try to make timely and efficient passes.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 51.000
• SILVER: 53.000
• BRONZE: 56.000

IB-4: Motorsports Heaven - Battle for Ascari.

Car: 1992 Ferrari F40
Course: Ascari Full Track
Mission Type: Section

Ascari is a permanent race course in a Spanish resort. There also used to be a British car manufacturer named Ascari. You will be racing on the Ascari full course with a very popular and very powerful '90s supercar. Let the Ferrari F40 sing around this twisty and challenging race course. This Ferrari, however, is not very easy to handle. You can push its limits so much to where the back end can snap on you powering out of corners. So don't do anything too foolish to where you are unable to recover and pass the other three cars. Take your time on this one.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 43.300
• SILVER: 45.000
• BRONZE: 49.000

IB-5: Old Meets New - Lamborghini Showdown!

Car: 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 Bertone Prototype CN.0706
Course: Brands Hatch Indy Circuit
Mission Type: 2 Laps

This course has you racing one of my personal favorite Lamborghinis of all time- the Miura. The track you will be racing is Brands Hatch Indy. Since this is a fairly short course, you will be required to race two laps around this course instead of just one. This time, you are racing an OLDER car against a newer car. The Miura would stand no chance against the Aventador on long or fast tracks. Considering this track is fairly short, you might be able to pull a pass on the Aventador halfway around Brands Hatch on lap 1. Remember that getting Gold requires completing TWO solid laps around this course. So once you make the pass on the Aventador, continue to concentrate on utilizing the Miura's capabilities to successfully complete the Mission Race. Don't let that modern Lambo scare you! Oh, and remember- respect your elders.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 1:48.000
• SILVER: 1:50.000
• BRONZE: 1:56.000

Congratulations if you managed to clear these Mission Races!

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races - National A

John B. Marine | 11:04 PM | | | Be the first to comment!
So did you manage to clear the National B Mission Races? Good! Well, guess what- you're not done yet! More of these Mission Races await you. You will be facing harder Mission Races now that you made it to the National A Mission Races. You must demonstrate your ability to pass opposing cars while also navigating the various courses you are doing these Mission Races on. So let's continue this series on Gran Turismo 6's Mission Races here on "John's Race Space!"

Gran Turismo 6 Mission Races: National A

Gran Turismo 6 National A Mission Races
^ Some faster cars and tougher challenges await you once you reach the National A-level Mission Races. Are you ready?

Let's try to clear these Mission Races and prove you are a worthy Gran Turismo racing driver.

A-1: European Hot Hatch Battle.

Car: 2011 Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy
Course: Brands Hatch Indy Circuit
Mission Type: Section

Using the first half of the Indy configuration of Brands Hatch, you will be racing a peppy French hatchback around this British circuit. Each corner and kink are tricky on this course, so you will need to drive carefully to avoid overshooting any of the corners on this track.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 29.500
• SILVER: 31.000
• BRONZE: 34.000

A-2: Classic Sports Car Battle.

Car: 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
Course: Circuito de Madrid
Mission Type: Section

If muscle cars are more your thing, then you'll love this challenge. Circuito de Madrid is a tricky, twisty street course. You will mostly use the second sector of this course. You will need to drive quickly if you want to pass the opponent car in this Mission Races. Try not be too intimidated by the barriers around this track.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 34.000
• SILVER: 35.000
• BRONZE: 39.000

A-3: Battle at 3,000 Meters - Matterhorn Challenge.

Car: 2001 BMW Z8
Course: Matterhorn Dristelen
Mission Type: Section

Time to take to the mountains of Switzerland for this challenge. This Swiss track is beautiful, and so is your car for this Mission Race- the BMW Z8. Do not underestimate the level of difficulty in this challenge. For you to succeed here, you need to deal with rather severe elevation changes. And unless you want your car to be part of the scenery, keep your eyes on the road and don't lose focus of trying to pass the other three cars.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 37.300
• SILVER: 38.500
• BRONZE: 42.000

A-4: Night Fight - Apricot Hill Under the Stars.

Car: 2012 KTM X-Bow Street
Course: Apricot Hil Raceway
Mission Type: Section

For the first time in the Mission Races in GT6, you will be racing at night. Nighttime can be entertaining seeing lights shine through the darkness and providing exceptional views. However, the added darkness will impair your judgment as you try to overtake opponents or properly clear corners. Keep these things in mind as you race this lightweight Austrian sports car. You will be using the backstretch of the original GT track Apricot Hill Raceway, which made its debut in Gran Turismo 2 and can be raced on in time/weather variable conditions in GT6. Pass carefully after the first corner, because it can be too easy to either go too deep into the first corner or whack one of the three cars you have to pass. Most important is to try not to cut the chicane leading to the Finish of this section. Hopefully you can handle this section properly.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 38.000
• SILVER: 39.000
• BRONZE: 44.000

A-5: Old Meets New - Stingray Showdown!

Car: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (C7)
Course: Willow Springs International Raceway - Big Willow
Mission Type: 1 Lap

At first glance, Willow Springs seems like a fairly easy course. Once you race it, you realize just how tricky and challenging this race course in Southern California really is despite its seemingly simple flow. If you fall into thinking this is a simple course, you are going to pay dearly. So stay alert at all times as you complete one lap around the Big Willow configuration of Willow Springs Raceway while also passing your opposition. You will be racing America's sports car- the C7 model Chevrolet Corvette. Your specific one is the C7 Stingray. As your opponent gets a head start, you must try to overtake the other Corvette while also properly winding your way around Willos Springs. Try to overtake as quickly and efficiently as you can while also trying to navigate this tricky course properly.

TARGET TIMES:
• GOLD: 1:31.300
• SILVER: 1:33.500
• BRONZE: 1:38.000

This one's over. See if you can clear these challenges as best as you can.
